In recent years, moissanite has become very popular as an alternative to diamond; moissanite looks like diamond, but costs much less. Composed of silica and carbon (C), man reproduces moissanite in the laboratory. Why reproduce? This stone was originally discovered in 1893 in the Canyon Diablo meteorite, which fell approximately 50,000 years ago in Arizona, United States, and was the origin of the Meteor Crater .
Moissanite has on average more brilliance than diamond thanks to its refractive index of 2.65 to 2.69, compared to 2.417 to 2.419 for the diamond. This means that moissanite reflects light more than diamond, provided you compare two similar stones for color, cut and size.
