Not familiar with moissanite?
Over the past few years, moissanite has become a popular alternative to diamonds. It looks very similar to a diamond but comes at a much lower price. Made from silicon carbide (SiC), moissanite is now created in laboratories. Why recreate it? Because the original stone was discovered in 1893 in the Canyon Diablo meteorite that fell over 50,000 years ago in Arizona, USA—giving rise to the Meteor Crater.
Moissanite has, on average, more brilliance than a diamond due to its refractive index of 2.65 to 2.69, compared to 2.417 to 2.419 for diamonds. That means it reflects more light, assuming similar cut, color, and size.
With a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale, this brilliant gem is second only to diamonds, making it an excellent choice for long-lasting jewelry.
